Fire safety regulations for blocks of flats, in plain English
Under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, the responsible person for any building in England with two or more flats and shared escape routes must give residents fire safety instructions and fire door information. New residents should get it as soon as reasonably practicable after moving in, and everyone at least once every 12 months. The instructions must also be displayed in the shared areas.
Buildings over 11 metres have extra fire safety checks for blocks of flats: fire doors in the shared areas every 3 months, and flat front doors at least once a year. Buildings of 18 metres or more have further duties.
